Song, dance, and humor!

wieczor gwiazd

For the first time – by special request of Barbara Bilszta, exclusively for Chicago's public – an artistic autobiography of two stars of the polish musical stage. They will present their favorite songs, authors, and performers. They will share what fills them with wonder, what are their strengths and weaknesses, their pluses and minuses...

These artists of international renown, for years now have been in a class of their own, setting the standard for their craft in Poland:

Janusz Jozefowicz: dancer, choreographer, vocalist, and director – a most talented and universal artist – he is a true master of the musical stage.
Janusz Stoklosa: not only exceptionally talented, but also gifted with an extraordinary charisma, he is both a pianist, composer and arranger.
Natasza Urbanska: will be the feminine counterpart of this unbeatable duo. A wonderful dancer, vocalist and actress, for ten years she has been a key member and performer of the Studio Buffo Theater.

The performers will be accompanied by 20 members of the Paderewski Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Janusz Stoklosa.

The artistic activity of the duo Jozefowicz-Stoklosa is legendary: talented, bold in displaying their artistic stance they started the first private theater in Poland: the Studio Buffo theater, which today is regarded as Poland's top musical stage. Singlehandedly they raised the level of Polish stage art and Polish theater to world class standards, creating spectacles and concerts that compete with the best western and American productions. Every time they act on stage, they fill their audience with wonder and joy. Their performances are more than entertainment: they provoke to thinking, and educate with their anecdotes, and sensible humor. It's no wonder that the Buffo Theater is regularly sold out, and tickets must be reserved many weeks in advance.

Natasza Urbanska – a true jewel of the Studio Buffo Theater, she's sought after by the music directors of all music theaters in Poland. She is gifted with all the attributes of a true star: talent, beauty and a sparkling personality. Thanks to her hard work and perseverance, she has exceptional dancing skills, vocal skills, and even acting and acrobatic abilities (she was a national champion in gymnastics). Her friends of the stage are also impressed by her determination and courage in taking on the most difficult artistic endeavors. She is successful not only on the stage, but also in front of the camera: she's currently playing the role of Silene in the tv series “Fala Zbrodni.”

Ticket prices: Adults $45/40/35/30
Youth and Seniors: $5 discount

Pearls from Poland
NOVEMBER 2007 TBA

Celebration of Polish Independency Day

Northeastern Illinois University,
5500 North St. Louis Chicago. Illinois, 60625

Featuring the quintet of the Paderewski Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of W.N. Victor.

I come from a nation which has survived thanks to its culture”
John Paul II

No other country in Europe has a history that is so changing and so dramatic - no other country was erased from the political maps of the world, and no other country fought for so long with oppressors attempting to erase its identity and above all, no other country has had to pay such a price to keep its freedom. The most graphical chronicles of Poland's long journey towards freedom are stored in its culture. Poland's writers, poets, composers and painters have left an indelible history of the people, together with its traditions and culture. It is with great pride that we are able to present a concert that will feature handpicked pearls of polish music – works of polish contemporary and classic composers.

The beauty of the melodies, the excellence of the musical form, the original sound – often with traditional overtones – will enchant and amaze all listeners, and will make this an unforgettable event. We believe that these artistic pearls deserve to become a permanent part of our city's musical landscape.

In the concert program:

Tamburetta” by Adam Jarzebski
Preludio” and “Etiude” by Fryderyk Chopina
Serenade for bowstrings” by Mieczyslaw Karlowicza

Intermission

Canzona di Barocco” by Henryk Czyja
Pastisz w stylu Bacha” by Krzysztof Penderecki
Dwa dawne tance polskie” by Henryk Mikolaj Górecki
Orawa” by Wojciech Kilar
